Don't just look outside...Look inside
Today is a
special Day. Today is the awareness for
Moebius Syndrome. What? You haven’t heard of it? I hadn’t either until I met my best friend. She was diagnosed at 6 months old.
So what is Moebius
Syndrome? In shorts, it’s a rare congenital
neurological disorder that causes either complete or partial facial
paralysis. While that may be the primary
symptom, there are also a number of other things that can be present (like club
foot, hearing loss, or limb deformities)
So, someone
with Moebius Syndrome is gonna physically look differently than those who do
not. But should they be treated differently?
Um no not at all. Look on the inside not the outside.
God even
says so. 1 Samuel 16:7b ” Man does not see
what the Lord sees, for man sees what is visible, but the Lord sees the heart.” That’s plain as the nose on your face. We are told to look inside and see what God
sees, the persons heart. Not the squishy
red thing the pumps blood, but the way they carry themselves, the way they care
for others, the way they let God shine through.
Genesis 1:27 says, ”So God created man
in His own image; he created him in the image of God; He created male and
female.” God made us each unique in our
own way, our looks, our mannerisms, or in the rare syndrome we are born with.
If I had only seen the girl who couldn’t
smile big or had trouble with straws and had not gotten to know her, I would
have missed out on one of the best sister-friend relationships I have ever
had. She has always been there for me to
vent to, to share good news, to watch me get married (she was in my wedding)
and I the same for her. Many people miss
out of some of the nicest people who truly have a heart of gold just because
they look different.
Yall go Check out the page for Mobius Syndrome and learn all you can about it!
I leave you with Hebrews 12:14, “Pursue
peace with everyone, and holiness—without it no one will see the Lord”
